Freshman Nine Ties Milton, 8-8, as Jayvees Subdue Tufts for First Win

Warren Berg's winless (and undefeated) Freshmen baseball nine had a tough time staying that way yesterday afternoon, but with a two-run ninth inning it succeeded in registering its third straight tie, an 8 to 8 deadlock at Milton Academy.

Meanwhile, on the Soldiers Field diamond, the Jayvees took Tufts into camp, 4 to 1, for their first victory of the season.

Bill Weber started on the mound for the Freshmen, giving way to Jim Gabler in the fourth, while Roy Meears came on in the later stages. John Kilpatrick handled the catching chores. Milton pitcher Moulton went the route for the home team, fanning eight Crimson batters and yielding six earned runs.

The visitors picked up single runs in the first and second and two each in the third, fifth, and ninth.

Hal Marshall, Ed Smith, and Kevin Reilly led the Crimson at the plate, rapping out two hits apiece.
