They weren't spinning like ballet dancers, but Art Valpey's 103 prospective, football players were beginning to get the hang of the Michigan system as the first week of spring practice ended.

"We got about as far as you could reasonably expect after four days with uniforms on," was the new head coach's evaluation. "The boys have enthusiasm and a will to learn and, after all, that's the important thing."

Blocking drills, chalk talks and drills on basic single-wing plays were the features of the week's schedule.
