A stick-swinging clash between Yale captain Artic Moher and Dave Abbot, Harvard wingman, brought the rubber game of the Harvard-Yale hockey series to a turbulent close at New Haven last night with the Elis leading, 10 to 3. With the contest completely out of official control, Crimson coach John Chase withdrew his team from the ice with one minute and 15 seconds to play.
Charges of incredibly lax officiating came from both sides with Chase finally calling off the game because of the fight and the high tempers of the players.
Abbot suffered facial injuries in his set-to with Moher and was taken to New Haven hospital for treatment. He was bleeding freely from the mouth where he was struck by Moher's stick in a wild scuffle after both players had been expelled for fighting on the ice.
Frequent Fights
The fight was one of several between both teams. Myles Huntington, Crimson center, and Henry Van Dyke were penalized for engaging in fisticuffs.
Speedy and rough Yale play outclassed the Varsity throughout the game, with the Blue leading 6 to 1 at the end of the first stanza. Harvard scored once in the second period to Yale's twice, and repeated that pattern in the abbreviated third frame.
The referees in question, M. J. MacDonald and C. L. Crovat, left the scene early and made no statement as to whether the score would stand at 10 to 3 or later possibly be awarded to Yale on a forfeit tally of 1 to 0. Both officials were assigned to the game by Asa R. Bushnell of the Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Harvard Spares: Arnold, A.
