Freshman Nine Strong In Pitching Corps

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Two groups of diamond potential in the rough are being polished daily at Briggs Cage where candidates for the Freshman baseball team, and an amorphous mass of aspirants for the Varsity and Jayvee nines are working out.

No clear cut division between a Varsity squad and Jayvee team has been made at the practice sessions thus far and it is probable that no such distinction will be made at all this season, for Coaches Adolph Samborski and Lloyd Harper are trying a new system of team management.

They plan to keep a large Varsity squad--which will number about 35 men after a final cut coming up next week--out of which will come players for the Jayvee schedule. This use of second string regulars, according to Harper, should mean greater fluidity between the two squads.

Yard Moundsmen Potent

Pitching looks as if it is going to be the strong spot of the Freshman nine. A host of former prep school hurlers looks pretty good to Coach Warren Berg. Among them are Kevin Reilly, late of Roxbury Latin and brother of last year's Varsity ace, Brendon Reilly, Jim Gabler from Exeter, and Bill Emmons, who served in the armed forces.
