8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
"Save the Marshall Plan" officials yesterday made formal reply to last week's charges of the Committee for Wallace that their campaign is "ineffectual." At the same time the body for European recovery announced its speakers for tomorrow night's University-wide rally at Sanders Theatre. Starting time is indefinite.
Addressing the demonstration will be Richard M. Bissell, assistant professor of Economics at M.I.T. and a member of President Truman's Committee on Foreign Aid. Also on the platform will be McGeorge Bundy who helped write Henry Stimson's biography.
In answering the Wallaceites' attacks the Marshall Plan Committee termed its drive a "positive approach to influence congressional action," and restated its program, "rather than become involved in an exchange of fruitless discussions with any group.
"We want (1) reconstruction, not relief, (2) a positive program, (3) no political conditions, (4) the use of U.N. facilities, (5) European co-operation, and (6) non-partisan support.
"Furthers Constructive Approach"
"We feel our efforts in gaining wide-spread support for this program will greatly further a constructive liberal approach to the present European problem."
While the Committee was planning its own rally, literature and handbills were dispatched to the 17 other colleges in the project. The actual program gets under way today at M.I.T., where William Clayton, former assistant secretary of State, will address the week's first rally.
