Vets' Pay Boost Begins in March

In a long-distance call to Washington late yesterday afternoon, Chet Patterson, National Chairman of the American Veterans Committee, told officials of the College chapter that March subsistence checks will be swollen with the pay increase approved Tuesday by the House.

Still awaiting President Truman's nod, the bill, according to a high White House spokesman, probably will be signed over the weekend. It would hike single vets' payments from 865 to 875, and would bulge married men's checks up to 330, according to the number of their dependents.

In response to recent queries about VA supply purchases, the College Counsellor for Veterans has disclosed that student expenditures must not exceed the regular $500 per year limit, including tuition.
