America's capacity to lead depends on its faculty to produce wise and effective leaders, its success in retaining unity at home, and its ability as a people to continue to believe in the ideals which have motivated the past and point the way toward the future, President Conant asserted last night at a dinner of the Economic Club of Chicago.
Conant described the period we are living in as an "armed truce" with most of the differences stemming from a "fundamental disagreement in appraisal of what is going on in the minds of the leaders of Soviet Russia. These who control the destinies of Russia and her allies are sincere and convinced proponents of a philosophy far different from our own."
