The Debate Council battles Cornell at Ithaca today in the first of four contests slated for the weekend.

Arthur W. Purcel '50 and Peter H. Clayton '51 will travel to Cornell to take the negative side of the topic: "Resolved, That the President's Civil Rights program be enacted."

Last year, Cornell held the Ivy League championship. The Crimson took third place.

Conference at Milton

The Council will also attend a conference of debating teams at Milton Academy this afternoon. At the conference Robert W. Kratz '51 and John H. Sutter '52 will contend with a Boston College team, taking the affirmative on the topic: "Resolved, That a federal world government be established."

Lloyd J. Walker '50 and Richard E. Firth '48 will flight the weekend's third battle at a meeting of the New England Intercollegiate Debating Council at Tufts University.

Economic Security Debated

In the final contest of the weekend, Robert E. Kohn '50 and J. Phillip Bahn '49, president of the Council, will meet a team of the Socialist Workers Party of Massachusetts. In an informal debate, they will support the possibility of economic security under capitalism.

So far this year, the Council has a record of no victories and three defeats. On Wednesday a visiting team from Canisius College defeated K. Bruce Friedman '50 and Richard S. Stewart '51 on federal aid to education.
