BU's Second Period Spurt Stops Crimson, 8-6, in Hockey Opener

The popped in three second goals in the space of a minute, setting up a margin too big for an uncoordinated Crimson sextet, and the Terriers took away an 8 to 6 victory in last night's hockey opener at the Arena.

With Johnny Chase's showing shortcomings in speed, passing, and defensive work, Bill might have made the score much higher had not the varsity come back time after time with brief, quick which kept the outcome uncertain until the last four minutes.

Even at Start

Both teams played even games throughout the opening period, each tallying once. Harvard jumped to a 1 to 0 lead at 5:32 when defenseman Charlie Coulter scored after taking a pass from Jack Carman. Three minutes later the Terriers tied the score on a quick charge by Don Cleary that beat goalie Bill Yetman, who had made six saves up to that time.

Only one of four second-period BU scores came in the first 15 minutes, when Jack Cropeck whistled in down the right side with a shot from 15 out. Then suddenly the Crimson defense fell apart and within a minute the alert BU forwards had transferred a 2 to 1 game into a 5 to 1 game.

Getting fine passing, Lloyd Robinson, Bill Jurgelevich and Bill Kirrane all overcame Yet man with short shots. But the Crimson second line came back a minute later at 17:01 to keep the varsity in the game with a goal by center Myles Huntington, assisted by Dave Abbot and Tom Moseley.

Crimson Rallies

The same line opened the third period with another Crimson score. After a wicked drive by Moseley had been deflected, a shot by Abbot sailed in at 4:26 to make the score 5 to 3. As things got hot and stayed hot, each squad banged in three more tallies, BU's coming on well-working pass plays and Harvard's on quick stickwork in the crease.

Anderson Nets Two

Twice sophomore Doug Anderson poked in rebounds for the Crimson. The Huntington-Abbot-Moseley combination passed in the final Crimson score when Huntington pulled the BU goalie out of the nets for his second goal of the night.
