Radcliffe 'Prowler' Suspect Indicted For Two Sex Crimes by Grand Jury

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Francis J. Gallagher, suspected of being last Thursday's Radcliffe "prowler," was indicted for assault with attempt to rape and for completed rape by a Middle-sex County Grand Jury yesterday morning. He will be arraigned in Superior Court Monday or Tuesday.

Charges against Gallagher came from Miss Betty Lowenstein, who identified him as the man who raped her near Porter sq. on November 21, and from Miss Dorothy Drohan, who accused him of assaulting her in Arlington December 2.

Residents of the two Radcliffe houses invaded last Thursday did not bring charges against Gallagher. Fingerprint tests on the second story window at 6 Acacia st. out of which the prowler jumped failed to establish Gallagher's guilt in the intrusion.

After his arraignment, Gallagher will be sent to a state hospital for 30 to 35 days for mental observation in accordance with Massachusetts law.
