Thayer, Straus On Top of Freshman Football Leagues

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Thayer Middle chalked up its fifth straight win in Yard touch football yesterday to maintain its lead in the American League. At the same time, Straus mustered enough men to win by forfeit over an exam-ridden Lionel team and thus cinch a tie for the National League crown.

In other Yard contests, Weld North edged Matthews South, 14 to 12, and Wigglesworth A--D nudged Hollis, 12 to 6.

Art Lawson spearheaded the Thayer Middle victory over Claverly, throwing one scoring pass to Jim Anderson and grabbing another from Dave Cairns. A third Thayer TD came on an aerial from Brandy Lovely to Tom Rogers. Final score was 18 to 0 for the League-leaders.

Weld North's McKhann made the decisive safety in the close struggle with Matthews South. The winners' touchdowns came on a pass from McLaughlin to Otis and a run around right end by Symmes.
