Crimson Opposes Favored Princeton in Big 3 Opener

Valpey Discounts Predicted Rain

By Burt Glinn

PLAINFIELD, N.J., Nov. 5--"If it rains, it will be wet on both sides of the line of scrimmage," Art Valpey said here tonight at the Crimson's base of operations for tomorrow's collision with Princeton. Since both teams will work from a similar formation, predicted rainfall will probably not work to either team's advantage.

This means that the Tigers will remain the three-point favorites they are tonight, come sun or high water. In an effort to beat these odds, Valpey will pit the same lineup that downed Holy Cross against Charlie Caldwell's veteran Princeton team.

End Position Indefinite

The only doubt about the Crimson lineup centers around the right offensive end. Both Stretch Mazzone and Johnny Fiorentino have been waging a nip-and-tuck battle for the position. Valpey won't make his final decision until tomorrow morning.

Princeton's Tiger has been burning bright these past few weeks. After their dismal first half season the Tigers suddenly came to life two Saturdays ago, taking a 16-14 thriller from Columbia. They routed Virginia 55-14 last week and looked more and more like the 1947 Big Three champions who just one year ago trampled Harvard into the Stadium mud.

Old Tiger Stars in Lineup

There will be plenty of familiar faces on the wrong side of the scrimmage line tomorrow. Among others, big John Weber and George Sella are all too well remembered from last year's 33-7 debacle.

Against these hard running backs Valpey will send a team that came into its own defensively last week against Holy Cross and has displayed spots of offensive brilliance all season. Throughout this week's night-time practice sessions, Harvard has been showing more and more cohesion. This may be the week when both offense and defense get together.
