Hygiene Dept Is Unjustly Attacked

Service Is Above That Offered Elsewhere

To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

We are all getting fed-up with the petty, irrational complaints recently issued against the Harvard Hygiene Department. When I say, "we," I include all of us able to recognize competent medical attention when we see and receive it, plus those who administer such outstanding care, the Hygiene Department itself.

I feel fairly well qualified to criticize general medical services, since I have worked as a hospital orderly for the past two summers, and have, within the past three weeks, undergone surgery and post operative convalescence under the direction of the Hygiene Department.

The staff of the Department is composed of outstanding men in Boston medicine, many of whom are nationally recognized authorities. The facilities and treatment to which I have been exposed are of unusually high quality. Harvard men should be very appreciative of the privilege of having such superior men, facilities, and care at their disposal for such a nominal fee. David Roes '50
