Wrestlers Get 1800 for List

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Petitions seeking recognition of wrestling as a major sport received over 1800 signatures of undergraduates in two days of circulation throughout the Houses.

The petitions were presented to the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports at its meeting last night. This is the group in whose hands lies the ultimate decision for establishing wrestling as a major sport. No decision on the matter was reported last night.

Reason for the request is the large number of potential squad members. Also asked is the return of the Jayvee team, which was dropped last year as an economy measure.

Attendance at wrestling matches last year was second only to the crowds drawn by the football team.

A goal of 2000 signatures had been set for the petitions, which were taken around the Houses over the weekend, but the 1800 names were taken as a sign of student support.
