Eliot Stretches Skein; Kirkland Wins

For a litte while yesterday afternoon, it looked as if Eliot's undefeated elephants were going to lose a football game. Then in the closing minutes fullback George Galphin plunged over from the Winthrop 6 inch line to give his team a 13 to 7 victory.

On the next field, Kirkland's Hollis French and Willie Thompson were shutting out a fumbling Adams House, 14 to 0.

Elephant Passes Count

Eliot scored first in the Winthrop game when Jim Rossiter passed to Troop Hilder in the end zone in the first half. An attempted pass conversion failed to pick up the extra point, and the deficiency was to worry the elephants later on.

Receiving the kickoff, Winthrop marched deep into Eliot territory, hurled a long pass to score, and copped the lead by making the extra point.

Then in the last period Eliot traveled again. A sustained march carried to the 6 inch line, but an inspiring goal line stand by the Puritan line held the Elephants there for two plays. Finally Galphin bulled his way through the middle for the score.

Deacon Punt Backfires

Kirkland's first tally came when Hollis French simulated Hal Moffie and took a punt runback into paydirt. The conversion clicked on a run.

Willie Thompson scored the second time for the Deacons on a short run, and again French carried the ball over for the extra point.

A small crowd watched the game, and saw the Adams squad fumble the first two times they got hold of the ball. They never got started again after that.
