Jayvees Simulate Cornell's Offensive

"Lynn Dorset" throw passes all over Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon. At least that's what the Crimson coaching staff pretended when it put a red jersey on tailback Pete Petrillo and had him linitato Cornell's passing quarterback.

Big Red plays will got a final airing today, before Harvard's 36-man squad entrains for Ithaca at 10:30 p.m. Coach Valpey said he would list those 36 men today and also name his tentative starting lineup. "It will probably be pretty much the same unit that started against Columbia," he disclosed.

Still Not a Good Team

Valpey, who called the outcome of the Columbia game when he predicted that four touchdowns would be needed to win, thinks Cornell will be rough. "It should be a tossup. We lost a lot of weight Saturday and are not a good team yet."

Sophomores Sam Butler and Will Davis have moved up as a result of staff voting this week. Valpey and his aides made the decision after milling over movies of the Columbia game. End Stretch Mazzone is also challenging for a first-string berth.

In addition to defense against Cornell plays, yesterday's workout included offensive plays against the dummies and work on passing. In the latter drills, tailbacks Jim Noonan and Chuck Roche did most of the pitching to ends Johnny Fiorentino, Stretch Mazzone, Bob Di Blasio, and Walt Coulson.

Meanwhile, at Morningside Heights, Lou Little's Lions are still wondering what they have to do to win a ball game. In losing to the Crimson 33-24 last Saturday in the Stadium, they 1) came within one yard of having their biggest all-around day on offense in Columbia's 58 years of intercollegiate football (482-yard total, exceeded only by the 41-7 victory total over Lehigh in 1932), and 2) set an all-time Lion mark for first downs (they ran up 26).
