Football Team Polishes Offense For Weekend Journey to Ithaca

"We were just correcting mistakes," said Art Valpey of yesterday's practice, but everyone present agreed it was a most ferocious way to polish an offense.

In his never ending quest for perfection, Valpey ran his "A" and "B" teams through their entire repertoire of plays at the rate of slightly more than four plays a minute. Lest the men got out of practice, they carried out their blocking assignments against dummies bolstered by large linemen. Nobody seemed out of practice; on every play at least one dummy and lineman would go crashing down from a vicious block.

On the adjoining field Ben McCabe's white jerseyed J.V. tested out their offense against the third varsity for a bone-crushing hour in preparation for their opener Saturday against Leicester Junior College.

This same McCabe gave the working press its first insights into the football technique of one "Lefty" James of Ithaca, N.Y. Cornell's mentor is another exponent of the winged T, but he salts his assortment of plays with some from the conventional T.

The Big Red boasts two large tackles, a 155-pound passing ace in Lynn Dorset, and a lightning fast back named Hillary Chollet. McCabe was impressed, in fact, with the uniform speed of the Cornell team.

The coaching stuff has already explained the basic defense patterns against Cornell to the squad, but final preparations will not be made until today and Thursday.

The H.A.A. also made known final plans of the football trip. The Crimson's three railroad cars will leave Boston at 10:30 p.m. Thursday and arrive at Ithaca Friday morning.

Not much will be accomplished at the practice session Friday afternoon, since the squad will probably have to spend most of its time posing for pictures in Cornell's crescent shaped stadium.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., a capacity crowd of 34,000 is expected to witness the Homecoming game of the Big Red.
