Home-Coming Soccer Team Takes On Navy

Ivy League Title at Stake Here Today

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Navy's midshipmen will decide at noon today whether Coach Bruce Munro's Varsity soccer team can take the Ivy League championship. With four shutout wins in a row behind them, the Crimson booters meet the Middies on the Business School Field, adjacent to the Stadium, two hours before the football kickoff. A loss would put Harvard out of the championship race.

Although Navy has not had a particularly impressive record this fall, Munro fools that today's game will be "the toughest one" on the schedule. In League competition the sailors have one win, one loss, and a tie to their credit, with the tie coming against Cornell.

Both Tied Ithacans

Cornell is the only club which both teams have played, and the Crimson also tied the Big Red.

The sailors have apparently found satisfactory replacements for three key players, including two All-Americans, who graduated last June and have started working as a team--to go with their tradition of running and tackling as well as any team on the Eastern seaboard.

Key Players Out

In addition to tough opposition, the Crimson is worried about two other difficulties. Practices of the past few days have been poorer than those of the last two weeks; also, like the football team, the booters will have two key operatives sidelined because of the Medical Aptitude Test, which is being held simultaneously with the game.

The probable opening lineup: Batchelder, g; Drake, rf; Scully, lf; Seamans, rh; Bell. ch; Carswell, lh; Spivak, ro; Weiss, ri; Estin, cf; Potter, li; Dawson, lo.

'52 Faces Exeter

Soberer and wiser after its initial loss of the season, the Freshman soccer team will try to atone for its Dartmouth defeat at the Business School this afternoon when it meets Exeter's clever and aggressive eleven. A 4 to 0 loss to the Varsity in a midweek scrimmage whetted their competitive appetite.
