Schlesinger Hits Republican Party

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"I would rather vote for the haberdasher than the dummy in his-window," Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. '38 said yesterday afternoon at a Truman rally sponsored by the Law Students Committee of Harvard Students for Truman.

The issues of this election are in the parties, Schlesinger said, maintaining that the Republican Party is the party of business. The basic question concerning the Republicans is "Has the business community learned enough since its last tour in power?" Actions of the 80th Congress, he said, indicate they have not.

Schlesinger dismissed Henry Wallace as representative of the Communist Party and rejected Norman Thomas as too wrong in '40 and '41 to deserve the presidency.
