The Freshman football squad uncovered an impressive aerial attack against Exeter Academy Saturday, and as a result picked up its first win of the season by a 19 to 0 score.
Yardling passing, disappointing in two previous games, finally came to life, as quarterback-Captain Carroll Lowenstein throw to other backs for two of the three Freshman touchdowns in the game at Exeter.
In the second period, Lowenstein opened the scoring with a toss to halfback Warren Wylie in the end zone. A few minutes later Charley Walsh scored after catching another Lowenstein forward, which had been partly blocked and knocked high into the air.
Ground Drive Succeeds
Late in the game the Freshmen added another score following long runs by Bob Ray and Bill Healey. After the recovery of an Exonian fumble on the one-yard line, Ray plunged over for the touchdown, with Raverby converting.
Exeter's only scoring threat came in the third quarter when two passes and some faulty Crimson line blocking brought the ball to the Freshman two-yard stripe, but a line buck failed to score.
Backs Sparkle
Almost every back in the Freshman lineup had a good day. Besides Lowenstein, Ray, Walsh, and Wylie, Bill Fitzpatric was among the stars of the game. Fitzpatrick, an ex-Exonian, drew his first starting assignment of the season as halfback, and his fancy running well rewarded Coach Henry Lamar for giving him the chance to play against his orst-while mates.
Dusty Burke, effective little defensive quarterback, sat out the game with a torn knee ligament received in last week's game with Holy Cross. Burke will probably return to the lineup this Friday when the Freshmen meet Boston University in their next game.
The Crimson lineup: Bunce, le; Moulla, lt; Raverby, lg; Frothingham, c; Gordon, g; Thompson, rt; Brooke, re; Lowenlein qb; Walsh, rhb; Fitzgerald and Wylie lhb, Ray, fb.
