The president of the Harvard Democratic Club resigned last night to offer his services to the Harvard Young Republican Club. But the Club's executive committee refused to accept the resignation and started impeachment proceedings against him.
The resignation of William W. Oppenheim '50 was announced at the HYRC's meeting last night in New Lecture hall through a letter to Charles K. McWhorter 3l, HYRC president. Oppenheim based his switch on President Truman's "ineptitude."
Edward F. Burke '50, speaking for the Democratic Club's executive committee, however, said that Oppenheim could not resign constitutionally because he had "promised" to support Truman and had not informed the Club of his intended action.
