Observatory Invites Public Gaze With Five 'Open House' Nights

The University's observatory will open its doors to the public for a series of five fall "open house nights" beginning on Thursday, October 28.

Non-technical discussions of the lieavens and telescopic observation when weather permits, will comprise the programs. Lectures will be given by members of the Faculty on the Observatory staff.

Because of the limited seating capacity of the Observatory's lecture room, ticket applicants will be able to attend one open night only. Three tickets for the event is the maximum that those wishing tickets will receive.

Dates, titles and speakers are:

Thursday, October 28, at 8 p.m., "The Birth of the Solar System," by Professor Fred L. Whipple.

Tuesday, November 2, at 8 p.m., "The Milky Way," by Professor Bart J. Bok.

Wednesday, November 3, at 8 p.m., "The Sun--an International Resource," by Professor Donald H. Menzel.

Monday, November 8 at 8 p.m., "A Trip to the 200-inch Telescope," by Dr. Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin.

Wednesday, November 10, at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., (Children's Night), "An Illustrated Story of the Moon," by Dr. Sergel Gaposchin.
