Yardling Sextet Bows To Brown Cubs, 9-4; Jayvees Blank Newton

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yardling skaters tasted defeat for the first time yesterday, losing to a strong Brown freshman squad 9 to 4, after the Jayvees had shut out Newton High by a surprising 9 to 0 count.

Playing on Arena ice last night before the Varsity-Brown scrap, the Crimson yearlings found the speed and finesse of the young Bruins too much for them, as their forward lines failed to click and their defense snapped for the first time this season.

Behind 3 to 2 in the early seconds of the second period, three Brown goals in as many minutes clinched the tilt.

In the afternoon, the Jayvees, behind newly-elected Captain Larry Ward and second-string goalie Godfrey Howard, romped to their 9 to 0 triumph. Ward notched four goals, with Wally Robb performing the usual hat trick with three.
