Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Things went just about as expected last night in the Indoor Athletic Building pool, as Hal Ulen's swimmers splashed out a very conclusive 56 to 19 win over Brown. There was excitement all the way, however, for where the visitors failed to press, intro-squad competition was fierce.
Jerry German shone particularly brightly, continuing his reign of the 220 freestyle, to win handily in 2:19.7 over teammate Ted Norris. Three races later, German turned in the surprise of the evening by taking the 100 free for a double triumph that stands as the evening's best job.
Divers in Close Fight
Close behind him were Tom Drohan and Pete Steffens, who made a see-saw battle of the dive. Steffens, a mild surprise as a starter, flipped and wriggled expertly to come within five points of equaling Drohan's winning 90.63 total.
Champ Ted Norris took over where German left off, lapping his opponents in the quarter mile freestyle to lead teammate Hank Arthur home in 5:04.1, an excellent time considering the lack of competition.
Brown strength came where Coach Hal Ulen was expecting it--in the back and breast-stroke, and in the 50 freestyle. Oliver Patrell, Bruin backstroke, took the measure of Tommy Woods, and Ralph Gossler windmill his way to a triumph over Joe Fox in the 50 freestyle.
Hoeizer Drops Close Race
The tightest contest of the evening was between Crimson Captain Chuck Hoelzer and Milt Brier of the visitors in the 200 breaststroke, as the two battled it out all the way to the last ten yards before Brier crept ahead to win by two strokes.
