Expansion of local, national, and overseas activities by the United Nations Council are contemplated by Chairman Stephen M. Schwebel '50, including a series of 13 weekly broadcasts to Central Europe over station WRUL.
Forums will again consume a large part of the U.N. Council's Yard efforts, including a discussion of freedom of the press and information by widely known newspaper editors. Last year this organization sponsored speeches here by Sir Alexander Cadogan, British delegate to the Security Council; Jan Masaryk, Foreign Minister of Czechoslovakia, and V. K. Krishna Menon, India's foreign affairs advisor to Jawaharlal Nehru.
Recently recognized by the U.N. Department of Public Information, the speakers bureau will supply well-informed students to civic groups, labor unions, and women's clubs. Participation in governmental hearings is also expected following last year's testimony in State Department sessions on the International Trade Organization.
