Delegates Tell AVC Meeting Of Activities

Harmony was the keynote Wednesday night as the Harvard Chapter of the American Veterans Committee at the first general membership meeting of the summer term heard the reports of the delegates to the national convention and passed two unanimous resolutions on legislation in Congress.

Reginald Zalles 2G, head of the Harvard delegation to the Milwaukee convention, told of the behind the scenes activity which resulted in a sweeping victory for the Independent Progressives.

Stanley Karson '48, chapter chairman and the only one of the ten delegates who did not support the Independent Progressive caucus, was questioned by several members. They wanted more information on the group he joined which was organized the day before the convention in order to bridge a gap between the United AVC caucus and the United Progressives.

In addition to hearing the reports from the delegates, the chapter placed itself on record as supporting the bill now in Senate Committee to raise subsistance allowances and gave unanimous consent to a resolution in favor of the Stratton bill which would admit 100,000 displaced persons per year for four years.

With the summer's program well started at the meeting, Daniel B. Phelan '44, chairman of the International Affairs Committee, said his group planned to hold seminars on international issues with several University professors.

Although the committee plans to make a report in the fall on these private orientation talks, some additional men may get in, Phelan said, if they see him at the A V C office, which is open Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 o'clock.
