Samborski Plans Full Program Of Intramurals For Summer Sports, Highlighting Baseball

With the College tapering off to prewar normalcy, and most of the Varsity coaches heading for that favorite fishing retreat, Freshman athletes will have to wait until the fall before they can win a letter. Competition during the next two months will be strictly informal.

Intramurals and more intramural will form the core of the summer athletic program, and Director Dolph Samborski predicted yesterday that within two weeks, House softball and baseball leagues will be going full tilt. Freshmen will be eligible for all competition.

In view of the limited enrollement, Samborski plans to pool all House intra material and then split the competitors up into squads. From the baseball league, he will handpick an "all-star" nine, which will compete as the informal Varsity against whatever local competition is available.

All Freshmen in good health, of course, will have to sweat three times a week this summer. Athletic activites authorized for credit are tennis, swimming, volleyball, sculling, and calisthenics, in addition to intramural softball and baseball.

The Indoor Athletic Building Pool will be open for business five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 11:15 to 4 o'clock, while upstairs, calisthenics devotees can do their pushups at 12:15.

Men with previous rowing experience will be able to obtain singles at Weld Boat Club from 10 to 5 o'clock. Newell Boat House, which holds the Varsity shells, will be closed this summer. Tennis courts, located behind the Business School, will be available from 11 to 5 o'clock. Softball and baseball will be at Soldiers Field.
