A Junior and two Sophomores received accolades this week for outstanding work in the field of History and Literature, when they were named as winners of the History and Literature and Barrett Wendell Prizes for 1946-47. It was the first time in four years that the awards had been made.
Bruce H. Allen '46 is recipient of the History and Literature Prize for that Junior "who shows greatest promise" in the field, and Charles M. Gray '49 and Fernando Zobeley Montojo '49 are joint winners of the Barrett Wendell award for the Sophomore who has made "the most notable progress" in his first year of History and Literature concentration.
The two prizes consist of $50 each, with which the winners must buy books approved by their tutors. The Barrett Wendell award, given in honor of Professor Barrett Wendell of the Class of '77, first chairman of the Committee on Degrees in History and Literature, was split two ways this year. Both awards are made on the basis of general record, including work in tutorial, and winners are chosen by a committee of History and Literature tutors.
Announcement of the History and Literature prize winners was made Tuesday by Elliott Perkins '23, chairman of the Committee on History and Literature.
