'47 Committee Outlines Festivities for Class Day

Public notice of the speakers and the formal agenda for Class Day was made last night by the '47 Class Committee, through Associate Dean Robert B. Watson '37, who outlined the schedule to be followed in the traditional exercises on Wednesday, June 4.

Scene of the ceremonies will be the Eliot-Kirkland-Winthrop Triangle, which will be roped off for the occasion. Following the entrance of all June graduates--marching in cap and gown behind the College Band--First Marshal Thomas L. P. O'Donnell '47 will inaugurate the proceedings by introducing Dean Willard L. Sperry of the Divinity School, who will deliver the opening prayer.

Stern to Deliver Class Oration

Philip M. Stern '47 will then present the Class Oration, followed by Herbert C. McArthur '45 with the Class Poem. Next is the Ivy Oration, by Peter W. Fay '45, and then the presentation of the '47 class colors to the Freshman class by O'Donnell and Second and Third Marshals Robert Cowen, 2nd '47 and William M. Ayres '47.

Following this, the Seniors will be welcomed to the Alumni, represented by Laird Bell '04, retiring president of the Alumni Association, and Ralph Lowell '12, new president of the Associated Harvard Clubs. The program will be completed with the singing--to the tune of "Fair Harvard"--of the Class Ode, written by Harold C. Fleming '44, and directed by Chorister Whitson M. Overcash '45.

Lunch in Kirkland House will follow the formal exercises, and then the Varsity nine will move onstage when it tackles the visiting Yale squad at 3 o'clock on Soldiers Field. A buffet supper in Kirkland, a concert by the Orchestra and Glee Club, and informal dances, in Winthrop and Kirkland Houses will round out the crowded day. Tickets for the supper, concert, and dance will be sold separately, reversing previous procedure.
