Last-Place Dartmouth Nine Here Today for Double Bill

Toppled from the Olympian heights of Ivy League leadership after a five-week run in that position, the Varsity baseball team will attempt to recoup some portion of its prestige in a double-header with Dartmouth at Soldiers Field today.

Both games will be of seven-inning length, and the opener gets under way at 2:30 o'clock. With fair weather predicted, the first local twin bill since 1942 may see a fair turnout of undergraduates, whose attendance at previous Crimson diamond engagements has been something less than en masse.

Coach Dolph Samborski's nine had taken three straight league triumphs before dropping two one-run games at Princeton Saturday, a catastrophe which unceremoniously dumped the Crimson from first to fourth place.

The Big Green, currently mired in last place with a single win in six starts, has shown striking improvement of late, and gave undefeated Yale a hard time at Hanover last weekend before bowing to a two-run rally in the ninth, 7 to 6.

Jack Wallace and Brendon Reilly, who turned in good mound performances in losing roles against Penn and Princeton on Saturday, are expected to pitch for the Crimson, with Ira Godin on hand in case of trouble.

Dartmouth Coach Eddie Jeremiah will use Bob Amirault, his ace, in one game and Jim Doole in the other. The principal offensive threat in the Indian lineup is catcher Art Young, who played tackle for the Big Green football team and is hitting well over .300.

Jack Callaghy, Dartmouth shortstop, is Young's closest rival in the Indian individual batting race. His average is in the general vicinity of .300.

For the Varsity, whose anemic hitting was responsible for both defeats on Sat- urday, Samborski has installed no lineup changes. Bill Barron, the converted catcher, is apparently a fixture in right field.
