Heralded as a "revolutionary development in American education," President Conant's latest book, "On Understanding Science," will appear in the book stores today.
The volume, published by the Yale University Press, will form the basis for the now General Education course which President Conant will himself give next term, Hur..nities 11a.
Amply illustrated, "On Understanding Science" is divided into four chapters: "The Scientific Education of the Lay- man;" "Illustrations from the 17th Century 'Touching the Spring of the Air;'" "Illustrations from the 18th Century concerning Electricity and Combustion;" and "Certain Principles of the Tactics and Strategy of Science."
The book is based on lectures which President Conant delivered at Yale last May, which were the twenty-third in the Terry Lecture series
