Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
As the House Committee on Un-American Activities directs its attention to American Youth for Democracy and calls for investigations, a petition comes before the Deans of the College this Friday which asks official status as a University organization for Harvard members of the AYD.
In accordance with long-standing rules of the College, the group filed a statement of its program with Robert B. Watson '37, Associate Dean of the College, in the early part of last week. Some additional information is still to be provided, but members of the AYD said last night that it would all be in Watson's hands by tonight and that the application would be ready by Friday for consideration by the faculty committee which handles undergraduate charters.
Pro Tem Slate Chosen
At a meeting held a month ago, the AYD members at Harvard who at present are in the national organization on only a personal basis, voted to apply for an officially recognized autonomous chapter at the University. To facilitate the proceedings a pro tem slate of officers were elected which includes: Harry A. Mendelsohn '48, president; Lazare Nesin '48, vice-president; Sydney V. James '50, secretary.
Last night members of the AYD met in Phillips Brooks House to discuss action about the present bills now under consideration in Congress which have restricting labor as their objectives.
