Varsity track candidates had another field day at the Stadium Saturday as fat handicaps accounted for more phenomenal performances in the windup of the annual University Handicap.
Combined with results of the field events held Friday these times would make the hair of any opposing coach stand on end--if. The big if is that the winning times, distances, and heights were very often the result of considerable handicap padding.
Coach Mikkola, satisfied with the results of the two-day "glorified time-trial," said that handicap meets of this sort are excellent methods of uncovering latent track material; he agreed that "Harvard definitely won the meet!" From now on, though, everybody will have to come through without outside help, because there won't be any handicaps when Brown and Rhode Island State hit the Stadium cinders this Saturday.
