Another post-season laurel fell Saul Mariaschin's way Tuesday as a group of local sportswriters placed him on their All-New England basketball team. Co-starring roles on the sectional honor roll went to arch-rival Tony Lavelli of Yale and three of Holy Cross's NCAA Tournament champions: Ken Haggerty, George Kaftan, and Joe Mullaney.
Mariaschin previously had been selected for two other "all" quintets. Last week he was also picked for an All Garden five by Boston scribes together with Lavelli and the same three Crusaders, and shortly after the Yale game he was chosen for an All-Ivy League team.
George Hauptfuhrer, next year's Varsity captain, was awarded honorable mention on the All-New England squad.
