Federal world government and the United Nations will be the subject of a simultaneous home and home debate between Amherst and the Debate Council Wednesday.
Taking the affirmative for the Council on the topic: Resolved, That the United Nations be made a federal world government at once" will be Frederick D. Houghteling '50 and Arthur D. Sporn '47. They will meet a negative team from Amherst in the half of the contest which will be held here at the University.
Team Amherst Bound
At the same time, a Council team composed of Frederic L. Chapin '50 and Warren W. Furth '49 will journey to Amherst to meet an affirmative team there on the same world government topic.
As a result of a loss to Rutgers last Wednesday in a debate on the subject of labor participation in management, the Council's record for the term is knotted up at three wins and three losses. The debaters have defeated Columbia, Osgood Hall, and Temple, while meeting setbacks at the hands of California, Drew, and Rutgers.
Meanwhile, William C. Murphy 1L, in charge of the Union Debate Society, announced last night that the group will hold a debate next week in the Union North Common Room on the question of abrogating the right to the freedom of speech of those disseminating intolerance.
