A drive to increase ex-GI subsistence allowances will be started by the Harvard Chapter of the AVC tonight. The University Chapter hopes to gain support from students for a pressure campaign on the Congress.

H.R. 870, the bill being pushed, has been introduced in Congress at the request of AVC by representative Edith Nourse Rogers of Massachusetts. If passed, it would provide for subsistence payments of $100 a month for single men and $125 a month for married men, with an additional $10 for each dependent.

Representatives of two chapter committees will visit student rooms tonight, including Harvardevens, the Hotel Brunswisk, and Harvard Way Extension, in an attempt to gain support for their campaign. The Chapter will request that students send individual letters to the members of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, explaining individual cases which might aid passage of the bill.

Co-chairman George Dysart 2L and Stanley Lofchie '49 of the project said last night that AVC considered current living costs far above those at the time the GI Bill was enacted. "If the bill is to serve its purpose," Lofchio assorted, "the increase we propose is essential.
