Yale Fencers Lose To Varsity, 16-11; Freshmen Falter

Crimson fencing teams split honors with their Blue opponents Saturday at the Indoor Athletic Building, the Varsity winning its fifth match in eight meets, 16 to 11, and the Freshmen dropping their third loss in seven engagements, 12 to 15.

Coach Rene Peroy's Varsity had things its own way all afternoon, beginning with a strong 6 to 3 win in foils. The boys from New Haven recovered, but not quite enough, dropping both the epee and saber in succession by a slight margin of 5 to 4.

The afternoon began with Coach Grasson's Yale Freshmen taking the lead in foils immediately, 5 to 4, and going on to take the epee, 6 to 3. The Yardlings recovered in the last event to win the saber, 5 to 4, but the score was already too far weighted against them. Notable performances for the afternoon went to Barricelli of the Varsity foils team and Constable of the Freshman epee team, both of whom came out with unbeaten performances.
