With opening night less than two weeks away, Hasty Pudding Club theatrical rehearsals are in full swing for "Speak For yourself," its first full production since before the war. Opening for four nights at the Club on March 25, the show will go on a five city tour during vacation, returning for a final three-night home stand on April 9, 10, and 11.
Poughkeepsie, Buffalo, Philadelphia, New York, and Westchester will be the stopping points in a series of one-night stands which will occupy the entire vacation of both the cast and stage crew. The show, along with actors, stagehands, and musicians will be moved both by train and truck after each performance.
Written by Students
"Speak For Yourself" is an original musical comedy written entirely by students. Craig Gilbert '47 is the author of a script "which will probably cause many to stop tracing their ancestry back to the Mayflower," according to publicity director Martin Shwartz 2G. The show's 17 songs are the product of composers John Knowles '47 and Courtney Crandall '46, with theatrical president William Scudder '48 providing all lyrics.
Although student written and acted, a distinguished series of Broadwayites are in charge of production. Director Mortimer Marshall comes to the Pudding with a long record of overseas shows to his credit, as well as many summer theater productions before the war.
Assisting him will be dance director Charles Conkling, who was formerly in charge of all soldier shows in the ETO. Scenery and costuming will be done by Donald Finlayson and Miss Pat Haveus respectively.
