Felton, Fisher Throw Weights In Opening Afternoon Event; Strong NYU Rated Favorite

Provided they survive qualifying heats this afternoon, seven Varsity track and field men will carry the Crimson banner into Madison Square Garden tonight for the 29th annual IC4A carnival. Two others will compete this afternoon in the IC4A weight throw, which will be held at the Squadron A Cavalry Armory.

The vanguard of the Crimson group, including coaches Mikkola and Flanagan, manager Caploe, and competitors Fisher, Felton, Flint, Carland, Jackson, and Thayer, left for New York yesterday. They will be joined today by Harwood, Torrey, and Harrigan.

NYU Favored

Typical of the high-calibre material the Crimson will go up against tonight is a power-pregnant NYU machine led by versatile Irv Mondschein. A violet in name only, Mondschein broad jumps better than 25 feet, high jumps 6 feet 7 inches, and is entered in 5 events. To assist hi, the New Yorkers have a pair of 50 foot shot-putters, Mayer and Lampert, Max Padla, a 250-pound weightman, and the Callender twins in the 600 and 1000.

Varsity mainstays Jack Fisher and Sam Felton placed first and third respectively. In the 35-pound weight-throw last year, but several men who will be on the firing line this afternoon, notably Bob Bennett (national hammer champion) from Brown and Bob Miller of Rhode Island State, weren't around last year.

The Harvard entires: 60-yard dash H. Thayer; 60-yard high hurdles-W. Flint (captain); 16-pound shot put-P. Garland, W. Jackson; 35-pound weight throw-S. Felton, J. Fisher; high jump-G. Harrigan; polo-vault-P. Harwood O. C. Torrey.
