Army Grapplers Present First Real Threat to Unbeaten Wrestlers Today

By Robert Carswell

Eight grapplers from the United States Military Academy with a record of five wins and one defeat behind them will meet Chief Boston's Varsity wrestling team this afternoon at 3:00 o'clock in the Indoor. Athletic Building, providing the Crimson with their first real match of the season. With wins over feeble teams from Tafts and M.I.T. already racked up, the Varsity has not had an official meet since January 15 and still is weak in the lighter positions.

The Cadets, after cleaning up all Eastern opposition, including Yale and Columbia, earlier this week suddenly ran into a powerhouse from Cornell College in Iowa and dropped their first meet of the season. Nevertheless they are still regarded as one of the leading teams in this part of the country.

The lineups: HARVARD    ARMY Cohen or Schless  121  Cunningham Bowditch  128  Fern Trinkle  136  Robertson Ray  145  Mock (Capt.) Tyng  155  Thevenet Louria (capt.)  165  Olentine Claflin  175  Finley Fuller  Unlim  McDaniel

In probably the toughest match of the season Connie Tyng will be pitted against the West Point ace 155-pounder Stan Thevenet who has not been defeated in two years of dual competition. Captain Don Louria will be in the 165-pound slot while Pete Fuller, also with two pins behind him, will be at heavyweight.

While the Varsity grapples with Army here, the Freshman wrestling team under Coach Jay Thomas travels up to Exeter to engage a strong team from Exeter Academy.
