Harvard's postwar renaissance, conceived earlier this month at West Point, quickened its pace last Saturday afternoon in Yale's Indoor Cage, when the Crimson pinned a 55 to 45 defeat on the Elis. The meet was the third in a newly-initiated annual indoor series.
It was a close fracas that had a partisan crowd of about 1000 roaring at the drop of a crossbar, from the opening contests right up to the last event, when Harvard's two-mile relay team of Groshong, Edelman, Withington, and Gurley broke the bulldog's back and clinched the victory.
Gurley, who had previously won the mile, applied the coup de grace by bolting past the Eli anchorman on the back-stretch of the final lap, as spectators, officials and competitors surged onto the cinder track. If Yale had won this event
the meet would have ended in a 50 to 50 tie.
Coach Mikkola's pre contest prediction that his squad would perform with 100 percent efficiency came true, particularly in the field events, where the Varsity mopped up 30 out of a possible 45 points.
