"Everyone talks today of the great need for teachers," said Dean Payson S. Wild in previewing tonight's forum at 7:15 o'clock in the Lowell House Junior Common Room on "Teaching as a Career," "but very little is known about how to get training for it or what it's really like.
"That's the purpose of this forum," Wild continued. "We want to get in contact with boys still in College who are interested in teaching of any sort, and help them by choosing the right courses and planning intelligently."
Much of this work is done by the Office of Student Placement, organizer of this series of vocational lectures, but tonight's meeting will be under the direction of Dean Wild, who will lead the discussion period after three talks on various phases of education by leaders in the field.
William G. Saltonstall, headmaster of Exeter Academy, will speak on private school teaching, while Dana M. Cotton, Director of Placement at the Graduate School of Education, will discuss public schools. Professor C. Crane Brinton will talk on colleges.
The Student Placement Office, which is now establishing a system to help students in every field of study get guidance for vocational choice, will soon be able not only to find jobs for graduates, but to help students carry out an adequate preparatory scheme.
