New WHCN Series to Present Weekly Adaptations of Plays Taken from Drama Courses

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With an ethereal production of Chekov's "The Cherry Orchard" tonight at 8 o'clock, WHCN will inaugurate its new series of ten weekly adaptations of dramas culled from comparative literature 3b and English 60c.

Sponsored by Francis O. Matthiessen, professor in History and Literature and instructor in Comp. Lit. 3b, and Herschel C. Baker, assistant professor in English, who gives English 60c, this Crimson Network innovation is the brain-child of William A. West '49, and Ted Allegretti '47, who adapted and directed tonight's show.

Matthiessen Leads Off

Introductory comments by Professor Matthiessen will start the series rolling tonight. Featured in "The Cherry Orchard" are Anna Prince, Radcliffe '47, as Madame Reneski, West as Zopakhin, and Frederick F. Lamont '48, of Goev. Most talent for the broadcasts will be selected from those taking the sponsoring courses.

Next week's arm-chair theatregoers will hear Moliere's "The Doctor In Spite of Himself," Following productions will include "Mrs. Warren's Profession" by Shaw, "The Way of the World" by Congreve, "Riders to the Sea" by Singe, "The Adding Machine" by Rice, "Awake and Sing" by Odets.
