Federalists Chase 10,000 Signatures To Back Petition

Five hundred feet of signatures is the goal the Harvard World Federalists will aim for as they begin canvassing "every home in Cambridge" tomorrow to obtain voters' support for a petition backing universal government.

The petition, directed to Cambridge congressman John F. Kennedy '40 and Senator Arthur Vandenberg, asks both to vote in favor of instructing the United States' UN delegation to request either immediate amendment of the United Nations Charter or its complete revision by a world convention.

Resolution Introduced

A resolution to that effect is to be introduced in both houses this January by a group of 24 senators and representatives.

The HWF will seek the names of 10,000 Cambridge voters on the petition, which marks the first active campaign undertaken by the organization since its inception last year. Members of the American Veterans Committee and Liberal Union have also been requested to aid in the canvassing.

The drive is being coordinated with similar efforts at Wellesley and Smith.
