Crimson Trackmen Determined Not To Be Last in Nonagonals at Nassau

In multiple-college cross country meets, there is generally one team afraid of finishing last. The seven-man Crimson squad which will take off this morning from Logan Airport for the Nanagonals at Princeton finds itself in this category.

Coach Mikkola was blunt last night. "With the strength we have, it is very possible that we might be last." Naturally, the Varsity will huff and puff its hardest over the five-mile Nassau course, but considering the admittedly superior field. Coach Mikkola's statement is not too pessimistic.

Makeshift Team

Bled white by injuries and academic troubles this fall, the Varsity includes four men who would probably not have made the trip if Jaakko's pre-season plans had materialized.

Bill O'Connor, Vince Moriarty, Frank Gurley, Herby Pratt, and Charley Worth won't be around when the starter's gun sends the 63-man field on its way at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Mikkola had counted on these men to pump some plasma into the Crimson this year, following last fall's mediocre season.

Favor Penn, Yale, Army

The three runners who will lead the Varsity today are Captain Huna Rosenfeld, John Cogan, 1948 captain-elect, and Bill Baker. Helping out will be Joe Leeming, Ardan Albee, and Harvard Wilbur. They will be in fast company.

Penn, Yale, Dartmouth, and Army are expected to battle for the championship, with Navy and Columbia not far behind. Princeton, Cornell and the Crimson complete the field.
