Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
Harvard men will march tonight, and their columns will storm the steps of the indoor Athletic Building in the first gridiron rally since the Crimson victory over Holy Cross three weeks ago.
Holyoke Street pre-Princeton festivities, which include a pop talk by injured Varsity captain Vincent P. Moravee '50, will be preceded by the traditional torchlight parade.
Led by a red-coated majority of the University Band, the marchers will assemble at 7 o'clock in front of John Harvard at University Hall, cross Massachusetts Avenue, and with horns transforming Cambridge into a Jericho, arrive at the scene of cheers, gridmen's speeches, and football orchestrations.
Spear Behind Rally
Head cheerleader Gerald S. Spear '48 last night called on all students to join the ranks of ralliers for victory over Old Nassau's Tigers.
"Despite the fact that the team hasn't been getting the breaks this year," Spear said, "I urge full support of the rally because it's our team, and because those players have been giving everything they've got. You can't ask a team to do more."
Cheerleaders wanted to hold Friday night mass meetings for other games since the Holy Cross fracas, but decided, "because of the failure of the Crusader rally, to collect all College enthusiasm for one night," Spear explained.
The rally will break up by 8 o'clock so that students going to the Harvard Princeton choral concert will have time to get to Sanders Theatre.
