Ozzie Keiver Voted Captain As Jayvees Await Princeton

Osmund O. Keiver '49 of Adams House and Swampscott was elected captain of the 1947 Junior Varsity football squad yesterday afternoon at the Dillon Field House. Regular left tackle for Chief Boston for the past few years, Keiver will lead the Jayvees when they play Princeton here on Friday afternoon.

Injured early in the season when coaches were trying him out for center, Keiver spent a couple of weeks recuperating, rejoining the squad in time for the Dartmouth game. Light for a tackle at 188-pounds, he nevertheless rates at the top of the Jayvee line squad and is likely to see considerable Varsity action if the tackle situation there deteriorates any further. He was in for a few plays against Rutgers Saturday.

Tough Game Saturday

Before trooping into the locker room for the election, the Jayvees had dummy scrimmages followed by signal drills, but with Frank Miklos, Bill Fitz and a couple of others now either on the Varsity squad or on lend-lease to it, Chief Boston had to run some of his reserves in the vacated first-string positions.

Although winners over Princeton, 21 to 0, last year, the Jayvees and Boston look for a tougher game this year with a Tiger team strengthened by some of the 1946 Nassau Freshmen. The Jayvees remember that last year they thought Princeton the best team they faced.

Played Last Year

In high school, Keiver also played between the guards and ends, plugging the line for Swampscott High for two years. Then a sergeant in the Army, ETO, for two more years, he returned to Cambridge in time for the 1946 football season.
