Philip C. Potter '48 of Winthrop House and New York City was elected captain of the 1948 Varsity soccer team yesterday afternoon at a meeting in Dillon Field House while reporters and photographers waited in another wing for news of the football election.
Peter N. Toulmin '50 of Apley and Dover was chosen Varsity manager for 1948 in a simultaneous announcement delivered by John B. Ensign '46, present booter manager.
Soccer captain at Exeter in 1943, Potter played at the right inside position for the Varsity this fall, piling up close to 88 minutes of playing time in each game, High scorer for the Crimson in 1946, when he played at center-forward, Potter was shifted to inside this fall by Coach MacDonald to make more use of his speed.
In Olympic Trials
After playing on the informal Crimson soccer eleven in the summer of 1944, Potter entered the American Field Service, returning to College in time for the 1946 season. This fall he was one of four Harvard players nominated to participate in the Olympic trials held at Troy, N. Y., last Sunday.
While at Exeter, Potter played on the soccer team for two seasons, filling an inside position both years.
Freshman manager last year, Toulmin served as Jayvee administrator this year, for which he was awarded a minor letter.
