Bock Demurrer Fails to Halt Survey of Hygiene Situation

Despite a claim by Arlie V. Bock, Gordon Oliver Professor of Hygiene, that he will be "very much surprised if they find anything revealing," the University Student Hygiene Committee met last night to continue its survey of his department.

In his statement yesterday Bock called useless the data which the committee has collected and suggested that it should rather have compared the provisions of the Hygiene Department with those offered by health insurance companies. He added that "no insurance company can cover what we are doing for the same price."

Meanwhile the committee spent the evening checking financial and admission statistics from the Hygiene Department and going over replies which other universities had sent to a request for information on their medical facilities.

Varying Replies

These replies ranged from that of President Charles Seymour of Yale who refused to give information to any but University officials, to detailed accounts of various medical and sex education programs.

The only concrete suggestion so far advanced in committee discussion is the idea that the Hygiene Department set up a University pharmacy to sell medicines at cost to students. Also under discussion were various plans for getting estimates as to the quality of service the Hygiene Department of offering.
