As wage negotiations continued between the University Employees Representative Association and the College, Aldrich Durant '02, business manager, announced yesterday the prevalent rates of pay for maids and janitors in University buildings. Head janitors, who are in charge of their buildings, receive 95 cents an hour their first year, and one dollar an hour in succeeding years. Regular janitors under the supervision of the head janitors, draw 85 cents an hour as a starting rate and 92 1/2 cents from the second year on.
44-Hour Minimum
Janitors regularly work a 44 hour week in five and one half days, and receive time and a half for all labor exceeding eight hours a day or 44 hours a week.
The standard rate for maids is 65 cents per hour. All maids in dormitories and houses work four hours a day for six days a week. Others who perform their duties in "educational buildings" work for varying amounts of time, but never more than eight hours in one day.
